This Xitsonga edition has been translated by Hlayisani Shiburi. Shiburi also known by her stage name, N’wa Jika The Poet Phyembye Ra Africa, is an award winning poet, praise poet, author, voice over actress, entrepreneur, and a qualified electrician. She is a published author of nine books, and has been featured in several anthologies including South African Anthology Poetic Minds (2nd Edition), Loss – iLahleko (A National Choreopoem), Gondzo Ra Vutomi (Solo), Edulwini Anthology, Poetry for African Souls Anthology, Vusiwana I Baji Anthology, and Ndzi Ta Fika (Solo). Shiburi has won several awards and competitions including first place in the 2021/2022 Ndebele Students Association Virtual Poetry Competition, the Best Poet Award for the 2021/2022 Collins Chabane Night of Fame First Annual Award and the best poet award at KADAWA. She is a 2022 Limpopo Music Awards nominee and she came second in the Poetry Live Performance in 2023 where she was representing South Africa in Botswana. In 2023 Shiburi won in the 10th Golden Shield Heritage Awards, coming second under the Young Heritage Activist category. Shiburi has performed across several local and international broadcasting channels including Munghana Lonene FM, Capricorn FM, Ikwekwezi FM, Energy FM, SABC TV, and DAILYTHETHA. As a praise poet, she has honoured people such as Mama Beka Ntsan’wisi, Tonic Chavalala, Solly Makamu, Arthur Zwane, Senzo Mchunu (Minister of Water and Sanitation), the Mayor of Collins Chabane Municipality and many more. She holds a certificate from Vision FM, MIA Creative Arts, and Voninganani foundation. In 2023 she was honoured by Jaji Secondary School, and in the same year was given a certificate of recognition from the USA. Shiburi has been an adjudicator for various provincial and national competitions. Shiburi is also the founder of Xitsonga culture inspired clothing brand, Switirhela Ku Lulama. Shiburi credits her success to her mother and family as her great supporters and reason for her love of her culture.
